Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find some of the most frequently asked questions about the Calgary Ironman 70.3. Also, please familiarize yourself with our complete set of rules prior to racing.

The Course
Q. Are we starting in the water or is it a beach start?
A. The race will be a water start, however there is limited room onshore for a land start.
Q. Is the swim a mass start?
A. No. We will have wave starts. Wave assignments will be posted in the weeks preceding the event.
Q. Where can I find a map of the race course?
A. Check out the course page for maps of each individual leg of the race or the entire race as well as elevation maps and transition maps.
Q. Where will the aid stations be and what will be available?
A. Aid stations are approximately a mile apart on the run and every 30 kilometers on the bike. We haven’t yet finalized the nutrition details but will be sending that information out in our newsletter once we have, as well as updating the information here.

Q. How do I register?

Q. Is there a waiting list for the race when it is sold out?
A. No.
Q. My plans have changed, can I get a refund?
A. Unfortunately due to the logistics of planning the race, and in line with similar events, we are unable to provide a refund. We encourage you to plan accordingly and thank you for your understanding.
Q. Will there be relays?
A. No.
Q. Which age group will I race in on race day?
A. Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races worldwide adopt ITU's age group rule, which states that age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete's age on December 31 of the year of the event.
Q. When will I get my race package?
A. Race packages will be picked up on race weekend. In order to collect your package you must be present, with photo identification. No exceptions will be made. We will also be including a race week schedule in our newsletter.
General Questions
Q. What are the typical weather conditions?
A. While Calgary has fairly unpredictable weather, the averages for August are:
Average temperature: high 22 Celsius low 10 Celsius
Weather conditions: August is generally a mild month, is it mostly dry with low humidity.
Water temp: expected to be 18-20C or 65-70F

Q. I have moved, how do I change my address?
A. Not to worry, just contact us via email and let us know your new address and details.
Q. I can't make it to check-in, what should I do?
A. Unfortunately if you are unable to make it to check in or package pickup within the scheduled times, you will not be able to participate in the event. All athletes must register and pick up their race package in order to ensure the entire event runs smoothly.
Rules
Q. Are disk wheels allowed?
A. Yes. Please keep in mind however that crosswinds are very common in Alberta so be prepared for all weather situations.
Q. Are wetsuits allowed?
A. Yes. We highly recommend wetsuits as the water temperatures are typically 18 – 20C
