Q. Are we starting in the water or is it a beach start?
A. The race will be a water start, however there is limited room onshore for a land start.

Q. Is the swim a mass start?
A. No. We will have wave starts. Wave assignments will be posted in the weeks preceding the event.

Q. Where can I find a map of the race course?
A. Swim/Bike/Run courses are available in the course section of the web site. See "Course" page.

Q. Where will the aid stations be and what will be available?
A. Aid stations are approximately a mile apart on the run and every 30 kilometers on the bike. We have not finalized the Nutrition but will be sending out information through our newsletter and when we update the website with those details.

Q. Are there still entries available and if so, how do I register?
A. Go to the ENTRY link on the site and if the entry page says registration is still open, there will be a link to the sign up form.

Q. Is there a waiting list for the race when it is sold out?
A. No.

Q. When and where can I sign up for next year's race?
A. On-line at Active.com starting August 3, 2009 at 7:00 am.

Q. My plans have changed, can I get a refund?
A. Unfortunately due to the logistics of planning the race, and in line with similar events, we are unable to provide a refund. We encourage you to plan accordingly and thank you for your understanding.

Q. Will there be relays?
A. No.

Q. Which Age group will I race in on race day?
A. For all 2009 Ironman and Ironman 70.3 races worldwide, Ironman will adopt ITU's age group rule, which states that age group athletes must compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete's age on December 31 of the year of the event.

Q. What is the schedule of events race week?
A. Race logistics can now be found here.

Q. When will I get my race package?
A. Race packages will be picked up on race weekend. Please review the schedule. You must be present, with photo identification to get your race package. No exceptions will be made. A race week schedule will also be emailed to our newsletter list.

Q. What are the typical weather conditions?
A. Calgary weather is unpredictable however August averages are:

  • Average temperature: high 22 Celsius low 10 Celsius

  • Weather conditions: August is generally a mild month, is it mostly dry with low humidity.

  • Water temp: expected to be 18-20C or 65-70F

Q. How can I convert degrees Celsius (°C) to degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or vice versa?

Q. Who do I contact about massage during race week?

Q. I have moved, how do I change my address?
A. Please contact us via email with your old and new address and phone number.

 

Q. How do I get information about parking in the area?

Q. I can't make it to check-in, what should I do?
A. If you can not make it to check-in / packet pickup in the designated timeframe, you will not be able to participate in the event. All athletes must register, pick up race package, during the specified time scheduled.

Q. How many qualifying slots are there for the Foster Grant Ironman 70.3 World Championship, and how are they distributed?
A. There are 40 slots for Clearwater.  Please visit our Qualifying Page for more information.

Q. Are disk wheels allowed?
A. Yes. However, cross winds are common in Alberta so please be prepared for all weather conditions.

Q. Are wetsuits allowed?
A. Yes. In fact, wetsuits are strongly advised for our event as the water is typically 18-20C

Q. What are the distances for the Ironman 70.3 Calgary event?
A. Ironman 70.3 events consist of a 1.9km (1.2 mile) swim, 90 km (56 mile) bike, and a 21.1km (13.1 mile) run.
